What is Home-Based Food?

Home-Based Food is a certified standard authorised by Ministry of Health Malaysia. In order to encourage home-based food operators to follow current regulatory criteria for safe food preparation and cleanliness, the Home-based Food Enterpreneurs Listing was established. By using logos on their product labels, home-based food businesses can leverage this listing to boost sales revenue and boost customer confidence. 

Who can apply for it?

  1. All food enterpreneurs who provide food at home for selling purposes
  2. Food enterpreneurs who meet the requirements set by the Food Safety and Quality Division

List of food categories not offered on application:

Not all types of Home-produced foods are offered for listing. There are certain high-risk food that produced in home kitchen require specific controls and are subject to egal requirements. Among the food categories that are not offered for application are the following:

  1.  Special purpose food 
  2. Milk products and dairy products 
  3. Food that requires a license 
  4. Alcoholic beverages 
  5. MOH may add on to the list of prohibited foods as needed
  6. Food that contains substances that are poisonous and harmful to health

The general supporting documents that you need to prepare:

  1. Application form
  2. Premise registration slip (FoSIM)
  3. Injection for anti-typhoid vaccine 
  4. A cetificate of Food Handler Training (from accredited Food Handler Training School (SLPM)
  5. Food label (fullfill the requirements of the Food Regulations 1985 standards and labelling rules)
  6. Others
